Lesbian and gay parents

Many lesbians and a lesser number of gay men, are parents. Some had children before they acknowledged, or acted upon, their sexuality. Some lesbians and gay men, on coming out, had to make the choice to separate from their children. Others had to fight to keep them. Some lost.

Other lesbians and gay men chose to become parents while identifying as lesbian or gay. Some did this on their own, others as part of a couple. Some use artificial insemination, via a third party, others go to NHS or private fertility clinics. Some adopt, and some foster.

We have contributors who fall into virtually all these categories. Lesbian mothes have fought for their rights and there have been several groups over time bringing lesbian mothers in Birmingham together.
