Subway City

February 1995 to February 2008

Large Dance club, opened on the premises of the old nightclub, under the Snow Hill railway viaduct.

In contrast to the old Jug, when subway opened it was bright and noisy. The entrance was moved from Water Street around onto Livery Street, there was a small reception, you then moved through into a smallish bar area with steps leading up to a mezzanine floor in the archway with a restaurant. Finally from the first bar you moved through into a large dance area in the second archway, this had a balcony running along the one side and the DJ box directly in front of you. The decor was blue and durbar plate steel and looked very modern and fresh.

The club extended several times into other arches and was famous for its dark men only ‘rest’ areas at the back of the club. The club was very popular for a decade although has a larger straight clientèle now.
